How to make a scent drag

Creating a scent trail is one of the simplest and most effective techniques to lure game right to your hunting blind. Following basic guidelines for using attractants is key to ensuring a successful hunt.

How to Choose the Right Attractant

I suggest choosing your attractant based on the time of the season.

In the early season, I recommend a curiosity attractant, such as an anise or apple scent.

Mid-season, I switch my attractant to a synthetic doe urine to get the attention of bucks during the rut.

Using the Wind to Your Advantage

Before applying your product, check the wind direction: this is the most critical step. Letting the wind carry scent molecules gives your scent trail a much greater range and higher efficiency, covering a larger area of your hunting territory.

Steps to Create an Effective Scent Trail

1. 1. The Starting Point: Start the trail as soon as you get out of your vehicle and are ready to walk toward your spot.
2. 2. Application: About 1 meter off the ground, spray 2 to 3 bursts onto foliage or shrubs along your path.
3. 3. Frequency: Repeat the application every 3 meters.
4. 4. Distance: Extend your trail over at least 150 metres all the way to your blind.

Once the trail is complete, settle comfortably in your blind for a still hunt and let nature do the rest.
