Unloading an Excalibur crossbow

By Steeve Gosselin

Do you own an Excalibur crossbow?

Know that the safest way to disarm it is to shoot your target. But sometimes, in a hunting context, you might have to manually decock your crossbow using a crank.

Here is the step-by-step procedure

First, point the crossbow toward a safe location and place the safety catch in the "Safe" position. You can now remove the arrow.

The crank is positioned in the same way as during arming. The rope passes behind the rail and the hooks are placed under the rail on either side of the crossbow.

Firmly anchor your foot in the stirrup and pull the rope on one side only with your strongest hand. You can now set the safety catch to "Fire."

Maintain the anti-dry-fire system activated. Firmly hold the crank handle on one side and pull the trigger.
